Protecting Your Information Starts with Knowing How We Communicate

With fraud on the rise, scammers are becoming more sophisticated in their attempts to impersonate trusted financial institutions. At CommunityAmerica, we communicate with our members every day through phone calls, emails, and text messages—but we want you to feel confident in knowing when a message is truly from us.

 

Understanding how we will and won’t contact you is one of the best ways to protect yourself from fraud. Let’s break it down.

How CommunityAmerica Will Contact You

We use secure and trusted communication channels to connect with our members, whether it's to share account updates, provide important security alerts, or verify certain transactions. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Phone Calls: If we call you, it will be from an official CommunityAmerica number. We may reach out to verify transactions or discuss account-related matters, but we will never ask for sensitive information like your password or PIN.
  • Emails: You may receive emails from us with updates, promotions, or security alerts. All emails from us will come from a @cacu.com address. We will never ask you to enter personal information directly from a link. If you're ever unsure, visit our website directly instead of clicking links.
  • Text Messages: We may send texts for account alerts, such as suspicious activity or security verification. However, we will never ask for personal details or request that you click a suspicious link.
  • Secure Online Banking Messages: If you have online banking with us, you may receive important messages within your secure account portal. These are the safest way to communicate about account-specific matters.
  • In-Person or Mail Communication: We may send official letters for account-related updates, loan information, or special promotions. If you ever question the legitimacy of a letter, give us a call.

How CommunityAmerica Will NOT Contact You

  • We will NEVER ask for your password, PIN, debit/credit card information, or one-time authentication codes. Scammers often try to steal login credentials—we won’t ever ask you for these either.
  • We will NEVER pressure you into taking immediate action. If a message demands urgency and asks for personal details, it’s likely a scam.
  • We will NEVER send you unsolicited links to update or verify your account. Any legitimate link we send will always be a CommunityAmerica.com or CACU.com address. If you receive an email or text asking you to log in through an unfamiliar link, don’t click—it’s not from us.
  • We will NEVER ask you to transfer money or make unusual payments. If someone claims to be from CommunityAmerica and asks for a wire transfer or gift card payment, it's a scam.
  • We will NEVER threaten to close your account unless you take immediate action. Legitimate messages from us will always allow time to respond.

How to Stay Safe

  • Trust Your Instincts: If something feels off, it probably is. Scammers try to create panic to get you to act quickly.
  • Check the Sender: Legitimate emails from us will only come from a @cacu.com email address. Any other variation is a red flag.
  • Verify the Source: If you receive an unexpected message claiming to be from us, call our official number or log in to your account directly through our website instead of clicking links.
  • Enable Account Alerts: Set up security alerts for suspicious activity, low balances, or large transactions to stay informed.
  • Report Suspicious Messages: If you ever receive a questionable call, text, or email claiming to be from CommunityAmerica, report it to us immediately.
